BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Katsuhiko Yamamoto is Manager of Business Alliance Support Center in The Energy Conservation Center, Japan and also a secretariat of Japanese Business Alliance for Smart Energy Worldwide (in short, JASE-W). He is in charge of ZEB dissemination Working group in JASE-W.
 
Graduated from Osaka University in 1978.
Before joining the Energy Conservation Center, Japan, he had working for the overseas strategy planning of solar power generation device group as a division director of Sharp Corporation.
After joining ECCJ, he has been working on business collaboration regarding energy efficiency in ASEAN countries and South American countries. Recently he has been focusing on disseminating Zero Energy Buildings in ASEAN countries. 
Current activities are as follows;
  • In charge of networking, business matching, and organizing events with partner country governments and organizations for the overseas deployment of Japanese energy-saving technologies.
  • Networking, business matching, and organizing events such as seminars and workshops for energy-related ministries and organizations such as ESCO and architects’ associations in Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Iran. 
  • He contributed to establishing ISO TS23764, an international standard technical specification for zero-energy building construction, renovation, and maintenance that conforms to the Japanese approach, which was put into effect in September 2021.

Approach Toward Zero Energy in the Building sector

ABSTRACT

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is now an urgent issue, and at COP26, many countries, including Vietnam, committed to achieving a carbon-neutral society. Reducing energy consumption, which directly impacts greenhouse gas emissions, requires more than conventional energy conservation efforts in the building sector, which accounts for about one-third of global energy consumption. In Japan, the current energy conservation legislation is not expected to achieve sufficient energy reduction, so the government has decided to work toward achieving zero energy consumption.
 
However, it is difficult to achieve zero energy consumption out of the blue, so the Japanese government has taken the initiative in formulating measures to achieve net-zero energy consumption in a phased manner.
 
This step-by-step approach was introduced, and the essential elements for building ZEB were organized and published as a technical standard TS23764 by the International Organization for Standardization last year. 
 
The Japanese Business Alliance for Smart Energy Worldwide is under ECCJ’s management. It has been developing the technical specification TS23764, holding seminars on ZEB in various countries, and promoting Zero Energy for Buildings on its website. In addition, it introduces multiple technologies and products useful for Zero Energy buildings through its website.
