BIOGRAPHY

Hyunjung Lee is Senior Energy Economist in Southeast Energy Division of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and based in Hanoi, Viet Nam. She is mainly working for Viet Nam as an energy sector coordinator and preparing and implementing various investment and technical assistance projects in support for power sector reforms (generation auction mechanism and wholesale electricity market development) and clean energy development (pilot floating solar auction, smart and energy efficiency city, green banking and green financing, demand side management program focused on utility energy efficiency and demand response programs, and grid-connected battery storage project). She is also managing a regional sustainable energy program under the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) cooperation, especially organizing various knowledge works among 6 GMS countries related to integrated and strategic power sector planning and leading the demand-side energy efficiency market studies in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

Within ADB, she has served various positions as economist in the areas of regional cooperation, information and communication technology (ICT), and energy. During a 3-year special leave from ADB during 2010-2013, she joined the College of Engineering of the Seoul National University as a visiting professor and the International Energy Policy Program as a professor where she taught energy economics and policy courses and supervising research for international master students.

Prior to joining ADB, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in electronics and electrical engineering in Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and master and Ph.D. degrees in economics in Seoul National University in Korea. She wrote several book chapters and papers in the areas of energy, ICT, innovation, productivity, and real options.

The importance of green and smart building for climate mitigation and post COVID-19 green recovery in Viet Nam

ABSTRACT

This presentation will highlight the importance of green and smart building for climate mitigation and post COVID-19 green recovery in Viet Nam, which also highlights the importance of indoor air quality in addition to energy efficiency for health and well-being of occupants. It will also introduce ADB’s Smart and Energy Efficiency City Project (SEECP) for 7 cities and provinces (Hanoi, Hai Phong, Can Tho, Da Nang, Lam Dong, Quang Nam and Quang Ninh) in Viet Nam and share initial findings from the SEECP, especially public building types, ownership, energy loads, construction practices, energy saving potential in public building sector (hospital, university, and government administration office), and improved energy management practices through smart technologies.
