ABSTRACT

Today, the whole world is facing major ecological challenges such as environmental pollution, resource depletion, and climate change. Vietnam is in a period of strong development, with an urbanization rate of 39.2% and is forecasted to increase to 50% – 52% by 2030, and a boom in the construction industry with a growth rate of nearly 10% anually. In the same process, Vietnam is facing more environmental challenges because the construction industry is the sector with the highest GHG emissions and also consumes the most resources.

This presentation attempts to provide an overall picture of the current state of urban development and the construction industry in Vietnam, with the achievements that Vietnam has achieved in the green building and green urban development. The presentation also attempts to analyze the efforts of stakeholders in the overall construction market, including the State, the private sector, the professional sector, international and non-governmental organizations, and the society as a whole; from which we can locate where we are in the green orbit according to the global trend.

The presentation is also the basis for further discussions on orientations and solutions to promote green building and green urban development in Vietnam.
