PRODUCT/SERVICE INTRODUCTION

Did you know: Air conditioners work by circulating refrigerant inside the device. During the cooling process, indoor heat is transferred to the outside, while during the heating process, outdoor heat is transferred to the inside. Refrigerant is an indispensable component of air conditioners. The main refrigerant in air conditioners currently circulating in Vietnam is HFC (fluorocarbons), which is studied to have components that increase the global warming index (GWP) when leaked into the atmosphere. After the Montreal Protocol in 1987, new innovations in refrigerants were born one after another. In 2012, Daikin launched the world’s first residential air conditioner using R32 refrigerant. The global warming index of R32 refrigerant is 1/3 compared to the old refrigerant R410A. With this initiative, Daikin demonstrates its pioneering position in applying R32 refrigerant, which does not contain ozone-depleting substances (ODP) and reduces the global warming potential (GWP), contributing to the vision and social responsibility of a leading corporation. Currently, 280 million air conditioners worldwide use R32 refrigerant, reducing 450 million tons of carbon thanks to the refrigerant conversion.

In Vietnam, the State has issued regulations on greenhouse gas emission reduction and ozone layer protection, requiring the mandatory collection and treatment of refrigerants when no longer used in large-capacity commercial air-conditioning equipment and products from January 1, 2024 (Source: Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP).

As one of the leading enterprises in law compliance and environmental protection, Daikin Vietnam’s team of technicians has undergone technical training programs on refrigerant recovery according to Japanese standards, and has been certified by the Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. In 2024, Daikin Vietnam will recover approximately 1.6 tons of R32 refrigerant at the Hung Yen factory and approximately 1 ton of R410A at the service block, contributing to reducing emissions of over 3,000 tons of carbon into the atmosphere.
